How we started:
We started Battle Fish Charters Black River shortly after both of us retired from the Army. We both attended Battle Fish Academy where we became licensed fishing guides and learned how to run a successful guide business. In that time we discussed starting this business near Fort Drum, NY to introduce active duty service members, their families, veterans and the community to ice fishing and kayak fishing. We want to help build a community around fishing, introduce a healthy hobby to others and showcase the incredible fisheries of Upstate New York.

Clayton Hutchings is an Army Combat Infantry Veteran and lifelong fisherman. He is a licensed fishing guide in NY, but his passion began in cold water fisheries of North Central Pa where he grew up. He fished Semi-Pro Bass tournaments and won numerous. He is both a self taught fly fisherman and professional fly tyer. He won awards fly fishing in Montana as Top Rod and 3rd place while competing in WV. He enjoys tying flies, sharing that joy with family, friends, fellow veterans and his son Jaxson.
Clayton loves to teach all levels of anglers to fish. He specializes in reading waters, identifying insects to pertain to the specific waterways being fished and conditions for an optimal fishing experience. He looks forward to sharing his passion with all levels of anglers and leaving the trip with a new respect for fishing.
